let’s get our priorities right

The randomness of live Ukraine news feeds. The BBC tries to lesson the tension with photos of Ukrainian soldiers playing football outside besieged Belbek airport in Crimea. And Ukrainian news agency UNIAN follows the headlines ‘Border guards begin operation “Border” on prohibited transport of weapons and munitions from Russia’ and ‘Ukrainian sailors accuse Putin of bare-faced lies’ with ‘Entry to Kiev Zoo free on 8th March for women’.

I suppose I’m glad that in all this crisis, people are still remembering that 8th March is International Women’s Day – although a free trip to the zoo is not perhaps quite how I’d choose to mark it in a country where domestic violence and abuse of women is rife …

Life does have to go on.
